Mrs. Herta (nee Hohmann) Ruhl, age 93, died on November 13, 2019 at Mountainside Hospital in Glen Ridge. Born in Newark to Alfred and Therese Hohmann, Mrs. Ruhl grew up in West Orange before marrying her husband, the late Jean Ruhl, and moving to Verona 60 years ago.
She worked as a directory assistance group chief operator at New Jersey Bell Telephone in Bloomfield for 42 years before retiring in 1985. In addition, Mrs. Ruhl was a proud member of the HG McCully Chapter of the Telephone Pioneers of America.
Mrs. Ruhl is survived by her children, John H. Ruhl, wife Debra; Linda R. Rollins, husband Matthew; grandchildren George and Abigail Rollins; and her brother, Alfred Karl Hohmann Jr. She was predeceased by her sister, Theresa Marie Hohmann, who died earlier this year.
Visiting hours are from 5 to 8 p.m., Monday, November 18, at the Prout Funeral Home, 370 Bloomfield Avenue, Verona. A graveside service will take place at the Pleasantdale Cemetery, 620 Eagle Rock Ave. in West Orange on Tuesday at 2 p.m.
Mrs. Ruhl’s passions in life were her children, grandchildren, flowers, pets, and all animals. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Montclair Township Animal Shelter would be appreciated.
