Larry Burdett passed away unexpectedly on June 20. Burdett joined the Verona Fire Department’s auxiliary section in 1968 and became a full volunteer in 1974. He went on to twice serve as VFD chief, first in 1999/2000 and again in 2007/2008. He was the first chief to serve twice and the first chief with a father, Merle Burdett, who also led the VFD. Larry Burdett was buried with full Fire Department honors on Saturday, June 29.
