Mr. A. Morton Riley, Jr., 89, died on February 24, 2015 in Glen Ridge. Visiting in the Prout Funeral Home, 370 Bloomfield Avenue, Verona on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Services will be held in the Grace Presbyterian Church, Grove Street at Tuxedo Road, Montclair, on Friday at 11 a.m.
Born in Orange, Mr. Riley moved to Verona in 1948. He served in the New Jersey State Guard and then joined the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II in the Pacific.
Mr. Riley was the owner and president of Riley & Downer, Inc. of Orange, a family owned manufacturer of shipping crates and boxes.
Mr. Riley was a long time member of Grace Presbyterian Church, serving as a deacon, Sunday school teacher and cook for church dinners. He was a volunteer statistician for Verona High School football and was a member of the Verona 5th Downers.
Mr. Riley was predeceased by his wife, Romelle Grace Riley and his sister, Ruth Mears Gates. He is the father of Charles Morton Riley, Thomas Lowell Riley and Abram Morton Riley, III. He is also survived by 5 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers donations to Hunger Memorial Fund of Grace Presbyterian Church would be appreciated.
