Mr. Norman M. Russell, Jr. died on January 21, 2015 at home surrounded by his family. A funeral mass will be offered in Our Lady of the Lake Church, Verona on Monday, January 26 at 1 p.m. Visiting in the Prout Funeral Home, 370 Bloomfield Avenue, Verona on Saturday, January 24 from 2 to 6 p.m.
Born in Orange, Mr. Russell lived in Bloomfield prior to moving to Little Falls 45 years ago. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1954 to 1962.
He was a professional fireman for the town of Bloomfield for 25 years and upon his retirement was the fire inspector for Glen Ridge and Verona.
In 2007, he was honored as the NJ Fire Prevention Man of the Year. He was a member of the New Jersey State Fireman’s Association, New Jersey State Fireman’s Exempt Association and FMBA Local 19, Bloomfield.
Mr. Russell was the husband of Rose M. Russell, the father of Jeffrey Russell, Renee Vocaturo and the brother of Ann Johnson, Nicky Russell and Karen Russell. He is also survived by his daughter-in-law, Angela and son-in-law, Joseph, 7 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the Trustees of Columbia University Medical Center, Dr. Azra Raza MDS Research Center, 161 Fort Washington Avenue, 9th floor, NYC, NY 10032 would be appreciated.
